Congratulations to Rockyner Hadley, better known as Rocky, on receiving the Heyum Endowment Fund award! The Heyum Endowment Fund was established by the late R Renée Heyum, former curator of the Pacific Collection, Hamilton Library, to assist Pacific Islanders pursuing education and/or training in Hawai’i. Rocky is from Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia and just completed his first year at the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM). He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at UHM in 2015. This summer, Rocky will be working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Pacific Islands Marine Protected Areas Community (PIMPAC) as an intern conducting research on environmental law. He will analyze laws/policies and other regulations governing fisheries and the protection and conversation of natural resources to determine effectiveness and recommend changes that could strengthen relevant laws/policies. His role as an intern will also include developing specific recommendations for Pohnpei State to strengthen the laws, policies, and other regulations giving consideration to the role of government, communities, and traditional chiefs in natural resource management. #CPIStudentLife#makemanoayours#CPISintheRegion

2019 Palau Field School: NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
Applictions are now open for this summer’s Palau Field School!
The summer 2019 offering of Graduate Seminar: Change in the Pacific (PACS690) and Topics in Pacific Islands Studies (PACS 492), is heading to Palau from the 4th – 20th of July! We will be collaborating with Dr. Katerina Teaiwa of the School of Culture, History & Language at the Australian National University to put together groups of students from Honolulu and Canberra to learn more about Palau, and its relation to the broader Pacific and world. This course offers students first-hand experience of understanding the complex relationships between gender, environment, tourism, regional and political affairs and the arts in Palau. With support from the local Palau Community College, UH Mānoa and other students will have the opportunity to engage with students, scholars, activists and artists on critically important issues facing Palau specifically, and greater Oceania more broadly.
Additional information and the application can be found at: http://go.hawaii.edu/GSt
