7th Annual CPIS Student Conference: Keynote Confirmation
The students of the planning committee for the upcoming Blue Pacific: Reclaiming Oceania Futures,7th Annual Center for Pacific Islands Studies Student Conference, are pleased to announce the confirmation of Kathy Dede Neien Jetnil-Kijiner as one of our keynote speakers!
Kathy is a #CPISgraduate. She is a poet, performance artist, and educator from the Marshall Islands who has received international acclaim through her poetry performance at the opening of the United Nations Climate Summit in New York in 2014. Her writing and performances have been featured by CNN, Democracy Now, the Huffington Post, NBC News, National Geographic, and more.
Keynote addresses and the student conference, scheduled for 15-16 March at the Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, are free and open to the public. Dame Meg is the first woman appointed to the esteemed post of Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, a political grouping of 18 member countries including Australia, the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, the Republic of Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Sāmoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
