The David L. Hall Undergraduate Philosophy Prize

The Department of Philosophy invites entries from undergraduate students for an essay competition.

The recipient of this award will win an all-expenses paid trip along with an additional stipend to present their work at the SUNY Oneonta Undergraduate Philosophy Conference in Spring 2025.

This Prize is funded by Roger and Bonnie Ames in memory of David L. Hall of the University of Texas, El Paso, who died early in 2001.

David L. Hall was a Chicago/Yale trained philosopher who advocated an inclusive pluralism in the discipline of philosophy. Over the years, he served as a visiting professor at the University of Hawai’i and made his own distinctive contribution to the life of our Department. He is best remembered as an exemplary undergraduate teacher and for his impact on the intellectual lives of his students at t University of Texas at El Paso.
