How to Apply

A complete application is to be submitted in two parts: 

1. Preliminary application materials (Graduate Admissions Application Form, GRE/TOEFL scores, and transcripts) are sent to Graduate Division Student Services. For further details, see the Graduate Division website.

2. Three letters of recommendation, a Statement of Objectives, and a writing sample are sent directly to the Department of Philosophy.

The deadline for applications from U.S. citizens and international students applying for admission is February 1 for the Fall Semester and September 1 for the Spring Semester. Applications from international students are due January 15 for the Fall Semester and August 1 for the Spring Semester.

The MA and PhD in comparative philosophy are recognized Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) regional graduate programs. Residents of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming are eligible, on admission, to enroll at Hawaii-resident tuition rates.
