Discuss
the parts of a book - cover, spine, author, and illustrator.
|
 |
|
|
Review
title page - "Let's read the title again." Have students
point to each word as they read to follow left to right directionality.
Look
at the title page.
What
does this tell you about the story you have in your head?
Does
the picture tell you about what we will read in the book?
|
 |
|
|
Read
page two and look at the picture.
What
is the boy doing in the picture?
Can
you paint a picture?
|
 |
|
|
Now
read page three.
What
is happening in this picture?

did you know you read the word "bike" correctly?
Can
you ride a bike?
|
 |
|
|
Read
page four.
What
are the two friends doing?
What
can you do to be a good friend?
|
|
|
Read
page five.
What
is happening in this picture?
Look
at the new word. What two words make up our new word?
Have
you ever played with snow before?
|
 |
|
|
Read
page six.
How
did you know you were right? Let's check.
What
is the girl doing?
Does
the picture go along with the sentence?
Can
you tie your own shoe laces?
|
 |
|
|
Read
page seven and ask these questions:
What
are the two boys doing?
How
did you know they were playing basketball?
Let's
read the sentence.
Does
the picture go along with the sentence?
Do
you play basketball?
|
|
|
Reade page eight and ask these questions:
What
is the girl in this picture doing?
Teacher points to the exclamation point.
What is this? What does it mean?
|
At
the end ask the students:
What
were some things the kids did in this book that made him special?
Teacher
may show the pictures in the book again and ask for each page, what made
him/her special?
What
is special?
What
makes you special?
Extension:
Make
a class book using the "I can..." statement and have students draw their
pictures. They can write about what makes them special.
