Purpose:
- To improve the quality of education for the students
of the Waianae Coast of Oahu, Hawai'i
Challenges:
- An exceptionally high rate of teacher turnover
- An absence of role models, specifically,
Native Hawaiian teachers from the community
- An absence of culturally-responsive instructional approaches
Goals: To prepare
- Teachers to form a stable core of
faculty at the various Coast schools
- Teachers, specifically Native Hawaiians
from the community, to serve as role models
- Teachers to provide culturally-responsive
instruction aimed at improving children's achivement
- Educator's with advanced degrees for
careers in adminstration, curriculum development, teacher education
and applied research
