![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Providing opportunities for Ka Lama mentor teachers and graduates from the Preservice Teacher Education Program to enroll in graduate classes in education is a new component of the Ka Lama Teacher Education Initiative. This is one way to ensure that prospective teachers are mentored by experienced teachers who are knowledgeable about recent trends and issues in the education of students from diverse populations, such as an understanding of the unique needs of Native Hawaiian students within the context of Native Hawaiian culture, language, and traditions. It is also a way to ensure that professionals of Hawaiian ancestry will graduate with graduate degrees in education to fill roles in teaching, administration, personnel preparation and applied research. Funding support is received from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation through the Institute for Educational Inquiry's Diversity in Teacher Education Initiative With in-kind and other contributions from LCC-W, UH-Manoa and INPEACE.
