The
Ka Lama Preservice Teacher Education Cohort prepares Native Hawaiians,
particularly Wai`anae Coast residents, to become excellent teachers,
with a commitment to the area. While Ka Lama shares elements with other
cohorts, it also possesses several unique characteristics:

Establishing community ties

Emphasizing themes of literacy

Emphasizing multicultural education and Hawaiian culture

Supporting the professional development of mentor teachers

Addressing the need for Hawaiians with graduate degrees in education
The
Hawaii Community Foundation, Arneil Petrie Tout Fund, and Kaaloa Farms
is a major supporter of our community efforts with the Ka Lama Preservice
Teacher Education Cohort.
