The
Ka Lama Preservice Teacher Education Cohort prepares Native Hawaiians,
particularly Wai`anae Coast residents, to become excellent teachers,
with a commitment to the area. While Ka Lama shares elements with other
cohorts, it also possesses several unique characteristics:
-
Establishing
community ties
-
Emphasizing
themes of literacy
-
Emphasizing
multicultural education and Hawaiian culture
-
Supporting the
professional development of mentor teachers
-
Addressing the
need for Hawaiians with graduate degrees in education
The
Hawaii Community Foundation, Arneil Petrie Tout Fund, and Kaaloa Farms
is a major supporter of our community efforts with the Ka Lama Preservice
Teacher Education Cohort.
