Mini-lessons are a
key component of any Writers' Workshop. The purpose of a mini-lesson is
to give students the information they need to become more effective writers.
The topics of mini-lessons can be determined by teacher observation of
student need, curriculum guidelines, or by student request. Mini-lessons
are brief (5-10 minute) lessons given to teach a specific skill or strategy,
or to give information. The focus of mini-lessons may be on workshop procedures,
author's craft, or writing skills and strategies as listed below:
