Mini-lessons are a key component of any Writers' Workshop. The purpose of a mini-lesson is to give students the information they need to become more effective writers. The topics of mini-lessons can be determined by teacher observation of student need, curriculum guidelines, or by student request. Mini-lessons are brief (5-10 minute) lessons given to teach a specific skill or strategy, or to give information.
