Teachers
may display a chart similar to this one to encourage independence during
the writers' workshop. Students refer to this chart when they edit their
paper.
Editing
gives the student an opportunity to enhance their writing by making grammatical
and spelling changes to their piece. The students can make these changes
using the suggestions they received during their conference. A chart on
editing for the students could have instructions such as:
- Edit
your writing using the suggestions your friend gave you during your
peer conference.
- Read
your writing to yourself and check for the following things:
- Did
I use capitals at the beginning of my sentences?
- Did
I use correct punctuation?
- Are
most of my words spelled correctly?
- Did
I indent my paragraphs?
- If
you do not know how to spell a word, look on the word wall, ask a friend,
or look in the dictionary.
Make
changes to your writing by crossing out - do not erase!
