The purpose of the author's chair is to give the students an opportunities to share what they have written with others; this gives them a true author's experience. Students sit in a special chair, known as the author's chair, to read their work aloud and get reactions from an audience. The author's chair is a way for students to make their work public and contributes to a sense of community in the classroom. The students must be taught how to respond to each other's writing by making positive comments about the content and asking the author questions. This is a way for students to celebrate finishing a piece of writing. The children are able to take pride in their work and really enjoy this experience.
