Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify similarities and differences with
Patricia Polacco and other authors.
Procedures:
Day 1: The Keeping Quilt
- Have students predict what the story will be about.
- Read - "The Keeping Quilt."
- Discuss the story.
- Distribute "Author Study" worksheet and have fill out the
first row about "The Keeping Quilt".
Day 2: Picnic at Mudsock Meadow
- Do you think this story will be similar to 'The Keeping Quilt'?
- Have the students predict the story.
- Read book.
- Discuss the story.
- Have students fill out next column about the author's books.
- Have students think of similarities and differences in both books.
Day 3: Chicken Sunday
- Have students predict the story.
- Read story.
- Discuss story.
Identify the similarities and differences about all three books.
- Make a generalization about the author.
- Have students do "Author Study" worksheet
- Community circle: discuss what the students liked and didn't like
about the books.
Assessment:
- Student's participation in discussions.
- Student's ability to make relevant comparisons about the books.
- "Author Study" worksheet is done completely
