Racialization in the Academy workshop with Dr. Robbie Shilliam

November 19, 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Queen Liliuokalani Center for Student Services Rm. 411

What are current movements and conversations on racialization and representation in the academy at the University of Hawai’i or at other institutions in Hawai'i and the Pacific? How do you negotiate representational absences and power dynamics in professional guidance and education (from bureaucratic to higher managerial to teaching spheres)? Join us for a talk story and workshop with Robbie Shilliam (University of London, author of the The Black Pacific: Anti-colonial Struggles and Oceanic Connections) on representation of people of color in the academy, racism in academic/learning spaces, and what kinds of knowledge forms and practices are respected, privileged, devalued or silenced in the academy.
