ACM & Shanghai University Night – ACM students work at HIFF

November 19, 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Dole Cannery B

The Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) has showcased an eclectic diversity of Academy for Creative Media (ACM), UHM student films since 2004. This year's program incorporates both films from ACM and Shanghai University (SHU). The Student Media Art (SMART) Exchange is a program that was started in 2006 and occurs semiannually, in November (Hawai‘i) and in June (Shanghai, China), under the auspices of the Hawai‘i International Film Festival, the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), SHU, and ACM UH Mānoa. For each film festival, student films are selected from each school, and filmmakers are invited as official delegates of the film festival. Along with film festival participation, these students participate in a filmmaker’s workshop and produce film collaborations – a first in Sino-U.S. student film collaborations – during a three-week period with program director Anne Misawa, Associate Professor and Chair at the Academy for Creative Media (ACM) at UH Mānoa. SHANGHAI ARTS & LETTERS was produced this summer, June 2015, as ACM UHM students, with filmmaker workshop and co-production leadership by ACM professor Lisette Flanary, and funding made available in past with HIFF student travel support awards and from ITO EN and OSG corp. This fall, two more co-productions will result in the Hawaii SMART Exchange program lead by ACM instructor Gerard Elmore.
