UH Manoa Chancellor’s Citation for Meritorious Teaching 2002-2006 Award Recipients
Manoa’s Meritorious Teachers

John Zuern
Department of English
For more than a decade, John Zuern’s teaching and scholarship have gravitated toward the rhetoric and aesthetics of digital art, theories of hypertext and multimedia writing and philosophical—especially ethical—issues connected with technology.
His specialization, electronic literature, provides him access to a set of computing skills and teaching strategies that allows him to realize a variety of "virtual studios" in which his students can work.
In all dimensions of his teaching, the associate professor of English helps educate people who can meet the challenge of Gadamer’s prediction, heading into their future with a combination of solid technical aptitude, conceptual rigor and genuine creativity.
The University of Hawaii at Manoa Chancellor’s Citation for Meritorious Teaching recognizes Manoa faculty members who have made significant contributions to teaching and student learning.
