Using Unity for Data Visualization

Workshop Description

This workshop focuses on using the Unity game engine as a real-time spatial computing platform for developing an interactive climate data visualization. Attendees will learn how to create a Scene, add and manipulate Game Objects, import and parse climate data, map quantitative values to spatial properties, and implement temporal animation.

Prerequisites

Learning Objectives

  • Create a basic Unity Scene and programmatically generate Game Objects
  • Import and visualize rainfall time-series data in 3D
  • Animate temporal data within an interactive environment
  • Recognize how spatial encoding and animation affect interpretation of temporal climate data

Tools Used

  • Unity Hub
  • Unity
  • Visual Studio Code
