MICHELLE SCHWENGEL-REGALA / THE FUZZ IS IN THE BUILDING

unnamed

Thrilled to announce our SPRING 2015 MICHELLE SCHWENGEL-REGALA ! A member of THE FUZZ, she has already yarn-bombed a UHM bike rack.

Michelle is an artist whose work is strongly influenced by her background in science. Her undergraduate degree and graduate studies were in entomology, wildlife ecology, and conservation biology, complementing her graduate certificate in Science Communication – Science Illustration from UC Santa Cruz.

She worked as a scientific and medical illustrator for more than 15 years before branching out into other types of art. Recently, she has coordinated local collaborative fiber projects including “Hook the Reef,” a crocheted coral reef project focusing on Hawaiian marine creatures, and numerous yarnbombing installations under the pseudonym “archiPURLago” with the crew “TheFUZZ.” The largest pieces have been at Spalding House in 2012 and 2014, while her signature tags of “spam knitsubi” are much smaller and are scattered around O‘ahu and beyond.

This semester Michelle is based in the fiber classroom (364) as an Artist in Residence. Stop by any morning to see Michelle and her knitting machine at work!
