HOʻOMANA EMPOWER
May 20 – July 31, 2024
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa
Hoʻomana Empower, a Kūkulu exhibition eeries at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa runs throughout the summer at multiple sites across campus. This is a collaborative project between UHM faculty, Native Hawaiian Student Services, Mauna Kea Education and Awareness (MKEA), and KTUH. The exhibition raises awareness for the spiritual, historical, cultural, environmental, and political significance of Mauna Kea.
The ART Commons Gallery display reflects the importance of collective learning and creativity across Kanaka Maoli and allied communities. The featured projects -- a film, a quilted hae (flag), and a paper ahu (altar) were made by many hands, including ART 302 undergraduate students in the ART Dept. The projects were facilitated by Assoc. Professor Jaimey Hamilton Faris and community artist Meleanna Meyer. The space was curated by ART 691 students. The display will be on view through the gallery windows from May 20-July 31, 2024. Other sites in the exhibition series are listed on the map.
