As usual Professor Debra Drexler spends her breaks from UHM busily working and showing in New York. This summer is no different and her numerous exhibition activities include:
Feral Objects, group show at the Creon Gallery / April 16 – May 14
– A solo venue as a part of the Fridge Art Fair, May 8 – 11
Defying Gravity, a solo exhibition at Java Studios Gallery / July 22- August 11.
And MOST impressively…
The Intuitionist, group show at the Drawing Center / July 11-August 24The Intuitionists is a collaborative artist project inspired by Colson Whitehead’s 1999 novel of the same name—a work of speculative fiction that explores the relationships between progress, technology, and difference. Participating artists are invited to submit artworks responding to a word or phrase from the novel. Drexler’s word was ‘silence’. The two images included in this post are her contributions to this exhibition, “To Believe in Silence” and “Speaking in Chemicals”, graphite and acrylic on mylar, 14″ x 11″(2014)
