JAIMEY HAMILTON FARIS / LOOKING FOR LEVIATHANS / THIS FRIDAY

jaimey hamilton faris

Upcoming lecturer by JAIMEY HAMILTON FARIS
LOOKING FOR LEVIATHANS will examine the dialectics between the “pacific waters” that lubricate trade and proffer treasure, and the aquatic’s foreboding vastness in such works as Allan Sekula’s Fish Story (1989-1995) and The Forgotten Space (2012), Ellen Gallahger’s Watery Ecstatic series (2001-), and Harvard’s Sensory Ethnography Lab’s Leviathan (2014). What is the potential of art to navigate the geopolitical forces of our watery planet? And what is the efficacy of invoking the poetic and beautiful futility in our recurring searches for leviathans?
