The Problem with the Living: On Writing the People's Race Inc.

Drawn from extensive archival research and one-on-one interviews with more than a dozen principle figures, The People's Race Inc. offers the first complete history of the Honolulu Marathon and an informed critique of how the race has grown beyond its founding principles. In this talk, author Michael Tsai discusses his melding of journalistic and life-writing approaches and the expected and unexpected challenges of dealing with living subjects.
Michael Tsai, Ph.D, is an instructor of English at Kapiolani Community College and a reporter and columnist for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. As a journalist, he has written extensively on sports, health care, TV and film, popular culture and local news. The People's Race Inc. is his first book.
