Mānoa Campus, George 301 Add to Calendar

This presentation will feature Spel Oner, a graphic designer and illustrator whose broad range of visual material (from traditional artistic forms to graffiti writing to computer-based media) appears on print and digital display. Spel was born in the Philippines and moved to Hawai‘i at the age of three. As a young immigrant who was raised by his grandparents, Spel took to art as a diversion and sanctuary. His artistic talent emerged at a young age, excelling at various styles and media. Spel has worked with numerous artists and companies, including Lightsleepers, Shing02, and Super Cr3w, and you can find him at Comicon San Diego and the Amazing Hawaii Comic Con. Spel will discuss several of his two-dimensional works, highlighting the connections between hip hop and visual artistic expression.
