Kapi‘olani

Veronica Ogata is an associate professor in the Department of Social Sciences, Division of Arts and Sciences at Kapi’olani Community College.

Ogata knew early on that she would become a special education teacher because both her mom and sister have disabilities.

She received her BS in family resources, MEd in special education and her PhD in exceptionalities from UH Manoa.

Ogata believes that learning is a two-way street, not just a process that involves “depositing” knowledge into students.

She runs the education program at Kapi’olani Community College, where she is shaping future elementary and special education teachers.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
