Who We Are

Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching

Teaching Medal Award Winner

David L. Callies
Manoa

A professor in the William S. Richardson School of Law, David L. Callies is a preeminent scholar and leader in the legal academy and a demanding and energetic teacher. He is the author or co-author of 17 books, 75 articles and numerous legal education publications, papers and presentations.

Callies often talks about the fantastic potential Manoa law students have and how they should make the most of their experiences at the school. Despite his busy schedule, he is available to answer questions and offer advice. A colleague observed that while Callies may sometimes act curmudgeonly, he is caring, committed and often very humorous.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
