Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching

Davis Award Winner

Leticia Colmenares
Windward

Leticia Colmenares is an associate professor of chemistry at Windward Community College. She is a master teacher who is extraordinarily committed to helping students learn chemistry.

Colmenares coordinates peer tutoring for students outside regular class hours. She also coordinated the Community Forum in Chemistry since 2006, to enhance learning in chemistry for both students and the community, and to serve as a bridge between the classroom and the real world.

Colmenares’ teaching style is challenging and supporting, enabling students to develop study skills and confidence to tackle the subject.

The Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching recognizes dedication and demonstrated excellence as teachers of undergraduate students. It was established as a memorial to the late Frances Davis, who taught mathematics at Leeward Community College and UH Manoa for 19 years.
