Using the Transfer Database

Transferring within UH System Schools versus Non-UH Schools

The University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges works with UH four-year campuses to help students smoothly transfer to a four-year college or university for their chosen major or program. Articulation agreements or transfer pathways make sure that the courses you take at the community college count towards your major requirements at the university. This can save you both time and money and help you stay on track to graduate.

Articulation and Transfer

If you are transferring from a non-UH school, additional documents may be required for an official evaluation of credits.

What is the difference between transferability and applicability of college credits?

Transferability refers to whether a course credit earned at one institution can be accepted by another institution. If a course is transferable, it means that the receiving institution acknowledges that the coursework at the original institution is accepted.

On the other hand, applicability refers to whether the transferred course credit can be applied to fulfilling specific requirements within your intended major or program of study at the receiving institution. Just because a course transfer doesn't necessarily mean it will fulfill a requirement for your major or degree program.

So, while a course may transfer to a new institution, it might not necessarily count toward your degree program or major. It's always a good idea to contact the institution you plan to transfer to and obtain specific information about how your credits will be evaluated and applied.
