Committee on Student Success
Mandates
(Bylaws of Board of Regents, Article II, Section D)
This committee is responsible for recommending policy and exercising oversight over the academic mission, goals, and programs of the University, student success and welfare, including intercollegiate athletes, and the university's research enterprise.
This committee is also the liaison between the board and the following affiliated organizations:
- All Campus Council of Faculty Senate Chairs
- Career and Technical Education Advisory Council
- P-20 Council
- University of Hawaii Student Caucus
Specific additional duties include:
- Review the academic mission and strategic direction of the system and its major units.
- Periodically review the extent to which programs support the mission and strategic direction of the University.
- Monitor the quality and effectiveness of educational programs.
- Review annually and advise the board of any irregularities concerning:
- the health, safety and academic progress of student-athletes;
- compliance with NCAA and conference requirements;
- any event or situation that may draw unusual public interest to the athletics program, a particular team, student athlete, or department employee.
- Evaluate and approve long range plans that establish the strategic goals and objectives for research, innovation, and technology transfer at the University.
- Review and make recommendations on proposals to establish or to terminate Organized Research Units and research centers.
