Instructional Technologies

Lamakū is the new and modern learning management system for the University of Hawai'i community and is powered by Brightspace by D2L. The word Lamakū (lit. 'torch') refers to education or enlightenment, lamakū o ka naʻauao. Please visit our Discover Lamakū page for more information about our implementation of Lamakū.

Audio Conferencing allows between four (4) to fifteen (15) people in different locations (campuses, neighbor islands, the mainland and in different countries) to communicate simultaneously with each other.

Computer Labs are available on the Mānoa campus for all currently affiliated University of Hawai'i students, faculty and staff for university business and/or educational purposes. The computer labs are intended to proved a place to learn, study and research.

Computer Training Lab provides the UH community with a location for hands-on computer training.

Distance Learning provides students with access to education through a network of various technologies. Instructor and students interact at a distance without having to be physically present in the same location. Distance learning provides students greater flexibility in achieving their educational goals through audio, video, and computer technologies.

Educational Access Channel is a part of the cable franchise agreement for all commercial cable companies in Hawai'i that provide public access channels for educational programming. UH offers educational programming for credit courses and UH-produced informational programming on higher educational access channels statewide.

Laulima is the learning and collaboration server for the University of Hawaiʻi community. The word Laulima means cooperation, joint action, group of people working together, community food patch, to work together, cooperate. Lit., many hands.

UH Online Innovation Center instructional designers provide personalized instructional design consultation, teaching and learning tools support, and media conversion. Individual project rooms are also available for faculty and staff use.

Video Conferencing services and support are provided to the University of Hawaiʻi community. ITS has the IT Center Video Conference Rooms, ITS Interactive Video Classrooms, and Video Conference Room Consultation.
