Site Proposal
November 2002
The University of Hawai'i s an
equal opportunity/affirmative action institution.
Please note that the conference fees do not include the cost of travel
or accommodations.
Travel
This year
the C&W
Travel Grant Awards Committee is working to raise funding to help
adjuncts and graduate students travel to the conference. You can donate
items to auction and place your bids at the 2004
Computers and Writing/Graduate Research Network Travel Awards eBay Auction.
Please feel free to make direct contributions to the fund
as well.
Summer, like any other
season for Honolulu, is a busy travel time, so be sure to book your flights
early. The Honolulu International Airport is served by all major airlines.
Accommodations
The Pacific Beach Hotel <http://www.pacificbeachhotel.com>
is located across the street from Waikiki Beach near Diamond Head. The
Pacific Beach Hotel will charge $135.00 plus tax for conference attendees.

Accommodations will also be available at the Pagoda Hotel near the Ala Moana Shopping Center <http://www.pagodahotel.com>and, on a limited basis, at the East-West Center on the UH-Manoa campus.
You may reserve rooms at the East-West Center by calling or emailing the Center's Housing Office. Be sure to mention the group name "Computers and Writing Conference 2004" to qualify for the conference rate. Rooms in the East-West Center's Lincoln Hall are studios with one double bed; the cost is $49 per night. Rollaway beds (one per room) are available for an additional $11 per night.
Availability of these rooms is limited. The conference was able to reserve a block of 10 studios; all rooms after that are on a first-come, first-served basis, so book early.

Ground Transportation
Taxis and
shuttles from the airport into Waikiki typically cost $20-$25 each way.
Busses and trolleys travel regularly between the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki and Kapi'olani Community College on Diamond Head, where conference events will be held. You can also reach KCC on foot from the hotel in a leisurely 30 minutes (it's an even easier walk back, as it's mostly downhill.) Many conference attendees in 1997 rented bicycles to make the journey.
If you choose to stay at the Pagoda or at the East-West Center, you should strongly consider renting a car to travel between these locations and Kapi'olani Community College, where the conference events will be held.
Weather
In June, daytime temperatures will be between 80-90¼ F, and the humidity
can be quite high. Evenings are cooler, but a light jacket or a long-sleeved
shirt will be enough to keep you comfortable. Please be sure to bring
cool clothing, hats with brims, sunglasses, and sunscreen. By all means,
you should choose comfort and sun safety over fashion and formality.
