Amid violence and instability, the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR has declared South Sudan the largest refugee crisis in Africa. Join Carrie Martin, Project Facilitator of the MAMA Project, an international child survival program with operations in Africa, as she presents her recent journey to assess 12 of the 17 refugee and IDP (Internally displaced Persons) camps near the Sudan Border in Twic County, South Sudan.
Despite being labeled as Level 4, “Do Not Travel” Country, Carrie felt compelled to meet the people, hear their testimonies of courage and hope in their struggle for survival. They have commissioned her to tell their stories so that they are not forgotten.
Carrie Martin is a published poet, teacher, and intrepid, international traveler.
