Community Dialogues: "Relationships" with José Barzola
February 14, 9:00am - 10:30amMānoa Campus, ACCESS Lounge, Dean Hall, room 5/6
Join us for a facilitated 90 minute session during which you can engage with peers from diverse backgrounds, learn more about the use of dialogue as an effective method of communication, and practice those skills with your peers. The activities will accentuate and strengthen your understanding of conflict management and their implications for involvement with the community. ----------- About Session: Relationships are the way we are connected to ourselves, other people, our community, and/or other living creatures in life. To me, I think about peacebuilding, specifically what are the skills I need to develop healthy positive relationships. To me, it is about building a beloved community. ----------- About Speaker: José Barzola has a passion for creating social change through nonviolence, nurturing relationships that transcend cultural barriers, and focusing on issues of diversity, inclusion, and equity. He is a highly organized higher education administrator with 20 years of experience and success in administration, student development within academic and student affairs. José has also been an affiliate faculty teaching courses on peace and conflict transformation, a professional mediator and facilitator for over 10 years both in New York and Hawaii. He is currently the Conflict and Peace Specialist at the Office of the Provost and Affiliate Faculty at the Matsunaga Institute for Peace at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa.
