The event is co-hosted by The Legal Clinic and the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (La Raza Unida, Refugee & Immigration Law Clinic, Health Careers Opportunity Program, Filipino Law Students Association, Hui Ola Pono) and sponsored by the university's SEED IDEAS (Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity's Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access, and Success) initiative. U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono is also supporting this event with a video message from Washington, DC.
This online film streaming of "Waking Dream," tells the story of Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and young undocumented individuals in the U.S. (referred to as Dreamers). The community conversation includes film director Theo Rigby, attorney and founder of Aloha Immigration Clare Hanusz, and Dreamer Brissa Flores. The breakout sessions include representatives from The Legal Clinic, UH Richardson School of Law Refugee and Immigration Law Clinic, and immigrant legal experts. It will give the community the opportunity to learn more about DACA and available resources.
