10th Annual Malama Haloa Kalo Festival
March 7, 10:00am - 2:30pmMānoa Campus, Ka Papa Loi O Kanewai
This year is our 10th Annual Malama Haloa Kalo Festival. We are celebrating the Hawaiian kalo varieties associated to Mauna a Wakea. HE KALO KU I KA MAUNA,I PUEPUE IA…
We originally knew of 4 kalo varieties associated with Mauna a Wakea. After doing some research, we discovered over 36 Hawaiian kalo varieties associated with Mauna a Wakea. Growing in the koele (chiefs cultivated field) known as Pahoehoe-wahine-iki-lani were a sacred kalo and awa garden. This garden was in the uplands and extended from Hakalua to Kaohe, where it joined the upland plantation of Puepue, and extended from Kukuiopae to Kapua.
Come and check out these kalo varieties connected to Mauna a Wakea.
BRING THE OHANA and enjoy good music, Ono Hawaiian food, lots of kalo and huli. Of course gonna have some awa too!
Ku Kiai Mauna!!!
