For Boys and Girls Comrade! Children's Books: For Fun And/or Politics

March 7, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Hamilton Library #401

Children's books are often thought to be used mostly for educational purposes - that is, to teach lessons to young children in an interesting and engaging way. While this may certainly be true, children's books also greatly reflect culture, including languages, history or tradition, and political ideologies. The fourth colloquium of the Treasures at UH Hamilton Library introduces Asia Collection's unique - Children's Book Collection including North Korean children's picture books. They show different aspects of North Korean culture as depicted for young children to understand and absorb. Jude Yang, Korean Studies Librarian, will coordinate this colloquium in collaboration with other Asia Collection Department librarians.
