Beekeeping in Hawai`i

November 13, 9:30am - 11:30am
Mānoa Campus, Lyon Arboretum, 3860 Manoa Rd.

Howard McGinnis is an O`ahu beekeeper who manages beehives from Kahala to Waianae. The honey he produces is sold in farmer’s markets on O`ahu. Howard will share his experiences, and provide some background on the state of bees and beekeeping, and bee pests and parasites in Hawai`i. You’ll get an update on the current state of bees on the mainland and some advice on beekeeping equipment for Hawai`i beekeepers. He will also discuss some of the “uncredited pollinators” in Hawai`i. This class is co-sponsored by The Garden Club of Honolulu, one of the “Stepping Stones to Good Gardening” classes offered at Lyon Arboretum. $15. Registration required.
