Open 1-5 Mon.-Fri. and Sunday. Gallery ‘Iolani proudly presents Communities, Disaster and Change, an exhibition featuring 28 of Alaska’s finest artists addressing the theme of natural disasters and the effects on their communities.
Communities, Disaster and Change is a traveling exhibition coordinated by the Valdez Museum and Historical Archive in Valdez, Alaska. Framed by the 50-year anniversary of the devastating Good Friday earthquake that struck Alaska on March 27, 1964, the exhibit showcases the art of 28 of Alaska’s finest artists from around the state. Each artist will show one piece, although some works contain multiple elements, such as diptychs and sculptural arrangements that address the theme of natural disasters’ effects on their communities.
This amazing exhibit was made possible by the contributions from the Western States Art Federation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Valdez, the Valdez Museum, Alaska State Council of the Arts, the Rasmuson Foundation, and Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.
