Colloquium-Why Hawaii? The Role of the US in the Pacific Region

The United States has long had interests in the Pacific region, but the rise of Asian importance in the world and global issues like climate change make it more important than ever to think about Hawaii as central to our globalized future. The Pacific Forum, located in downtown Honolulu, brings together scholars and practitioners working on complex issues between the U.S., China, Korea, Japan, and Europe. In this colloquium, Mr. Ralph Cossa, president of the Pacific Forum CSIS, will discuss the mission of the Pacific Forum, its vision of the Pacific region and the U.S.'s place in it, and the role of Hawaii in future international affairs. He will also address current regional hotspots and areas of contention, such as the Korean Peninsula and territorial disputes in the East China Sea and South China Sea.
