Free Open House for Sustainable Sciences Internship Program

January 21, Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Hale Tuahine in Manoa

High school students looking for community service opportunities; support and resources for senior projects, science fair, or college entrance preparation; interested in preparing for college-level biology, chemistry, botany, and zoology courses; like to work outdoors doing hands-on projects; or just want to be a part of a great team?

Come experience a taste of our program through hands-on projects on January 21, Wednesday, 3:30 p.m.!! (Parents are welcome to attend this event!) Activities include:

1. Clearing a garden plot: Cassava & sweet potato as miracle survival foods
2. Components and decomposition in an aerobic composting system
3. Soil components, structure and amending
4. Engineering for the environment
5. Methods of seeding (under hydro tent, then move seeds to nursery)
6. Methods of hydro & aquaponics and planting seedlings
7. Pupus and culinary patterns from around the world
8. Nutrient deficiencies and pest damage ID treasure hunt
9. Harvesting for complete nutrition
