Women's Studies: Celebrating 40 Years
January 16, 12:00pm - 2:30pmMānoa Campus, Saunders Hall 637
Hawai'i Women in Film: The Present Kai Wahine tells the story of the women who participate in the: Na Wahine o Ke Kai Canoe Race. This is a grueling 41-mile outrigger canoe race across the Ka Iwi ocean channel, from the island of Moloka‘i to O‘ahu.
While the story is told through the women of the Waimanalo Canoe Club, it also expands to paddlers from other canoe crews throughout Hawai‘i on topics such as: (1) why they paddle; (2) why it is important to them to cross the channel; and (3) why they make the sacrifices they do to participate in this incredible ocean experience.
Following film screening: Q&A Session with filmmaker, Anne-Marie Kirk.
