Bollywood Mondays: 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' (1985)

October 15, 3:30pm - 6:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics Auditorium (HIG 110)

'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' (Ram, Your Ganges River is Tainted) was released in 1985, a time of great political fragmentation in India. It represents the final film directed by "The Great Showman" Raj Kapoor, and stars his son Rajiv Kapoor and debutante discovery Mandakini.

The film retells an epic Sanskrit tale about a city lad who falls for a village belle, and their struggle to be together against all the corrupting aspects of modern society. Featuring beautiful scenery from the Himalayas and colorful song and dance extravaganzas, RTGM was the biggest box office hit of 1985, and won five Filmfare Awards, including for best film, director, and music.

This is the seventh movie in the 11th UH Bollywood film series, running every Monday this fall. For a copy of the full film schedule, please see the contact information below.
