Hold the Date: The application will be available on November 4, 2024, with a deadline of November 22, 2024. Launched in 2024, the Asia-Pacific Museum Professionals Exchange Program aims to help museum and heritage professionals develop and share best practices in the stewardship of sites, collections, and traditions that are central to the cultural identities of the peoples and the societies of the Asia-Pacific region. Open to mid-career professionals working in small- to medium-sized museums and cultural centers in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, the two-year program will cover a wide array of topics such as research into indigenous knowledge-informed conservation and documentation, digital tools for engagement, and collections management, via a series of virtual and in-person events and workshops: ~ Virtual workshop programming in Spring 2025 (open to all) ~ A two week-long in-person workshop in Honolulu, Hawai’i, in July 2025 (selected applicants) ~ Virtual Museums series on selected topics (Zoom): Fall 2025, Spring 2026 (open to all applicants) ~ A two week-long in-person workshop in Honolulu, Hawai’i, in July 2026 (selected applicants) ~ Virtual Museums Networking series: Fall 2026 (open to all applicants) For all applicants accepted into the exchange for the in-person workshops, the program will cover the costs of travel to and from their home countries to the in-person workshops, local ground transportation costs in Honolulu, international private medical insurance while participating in the in-person workshops, visa expenses, and lodging in Honolulu. The program will also offer a modest per diem for participants while in Hawai’i. To be eligible for this exchange opportunity, participants must meet the eligibility requirements and have experience working in curation, objects conservation, or collections management. The ideal candidate will actively participate in discussions and share their experiences and expertise while seeking to expand their knowledge, skills, and professional network. Additionally, participants must be proficient in English, have access to reliable internet for online workshops, and be able to participate in all aspects of the program. The selection process will take place in December 2024 and applicants will be notified in early January 2025.
