The Center for Biographical Research presents: / “Puana: A Conversation about the Upcoming Hawaiian-language Play Exploring Music, Kūpuna, and Their Living Legacy" / Moderated by Tammy Haili‘ōpua Baker, Professor, Department of Theatre and Dance, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) / Featuring production designers Maile Speetjens, Kaʻiukapu Baker, Noelani Montas, Chris Patrinos, Antonio Hernandez, and Kelli Finnegan / Written and directed by Tammy Hailiʻōpua Baker with Kaipulaumakaniolono Baker, in concert with artistic collaborators R. Keawe Lopes, Jr., Tracie Kaʻōnohiokalani Lopes, Zachary Alakaʻi Lum, and Tawaroa Kawana, the new hana keaka (Hawaiian Theatre) production Puana explores the deep connections that Kānaka Maoli have with their kūpuna (ancestors) through song. In this panel discussion, the various production designers will share about their roles in developing this production. Puana will be performed at Kennedy Theatre, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, on Sept. 27, 28 and Oct. 4, 5, and 6.
