This interactive, AI-focused webinar with hands-on activities aims to engage instructors in rethinking assignment designs to promote critical thinking and prevent students from relying solely on ChatGPT or other GenAI interfaces. The workshop-style webinar will first offer contextual information about the use of AI at the University of Hawaiʻi and other renowned higher education institutions. Later, asserting the idea that small adjustments and reimaginings, just small- and why not- joyful makeovers (Marie Kondo style) that occur in the continuum of the ever-changing field of education, can create richer learning experiences for students and a more peaceful and gratifying experience for instructors. The presentation will offer the possibility of experiencing some simple strategies to engage students in the learning process, activating metacognitive skills as well as ethical and moral judgment. No AI experience or advanced digital skills are required to participate in this Workshop. An open discussion about experiences, opinions, fears, and hopes in terms of the use of GenAI in higher education is expected.
