Discover the Joys of Ikebana

October 26, 9:30am - 12:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Lyon Arboretum (3860 Manoa Rd) Add to Calendar

If you enjoy plants and flowers and love to bring them into your home, come join us and discover the joys of Ikebana as you create an arrangement to brighten your home or office. The process will not only bring you pleasure as you tap into your creativity but it will also give you a sense of harmony as you learn to relax and let go of stress.

In this class you will learn some of the history and development of this ancient art form, the different schools that practice ikebana, and the guiding principles of flower arrangement as taught by the Ohara School of Ikebana. You will also use the principles and guidelines discussed and demonstrated in the class to create your own fall ikebana arrangement.

Materials for the workshop including containers, scissors, and kenzans (frogs) will be available for your use only in the class. You may take home the flowers and greens that will be provided for you to create your arrangement. To enhance your ikebana, you can bring a small pumpkin, gourds, and nuts to create the feeling of fall. In addition, please bring a bucket to take your floral materials home, a small towel to keep your work area clean, and a plastic bag to dispose of rubbish.
