Book Launch for A IS FOR ALOHA, 2nd Edition
October 20, 3:30pm - 5:00pm
See details for locations
A new generation of keiki will delight in the newly redesigned second edition of A IS FOR ALOHA, now available with bold color photographs. First published by University of Hawai‘i Press in 1980, the original edition of this alphabet book used black-and-white photos showing familiar island experiences as a way for Hawai‘i’s children to learn their ABCs. The new, updated edition does the same with its full-color images of everyday pleasures—eating noodle soup, dancing hula, wearing plumeria lei, and watching birds and geckos.
UH professor emerita Stephanie Feeney, author of the first edition, will fly to Honolulu from her current home of Portland to launch the book. Dr. Feeney taught and administered early education programs at the College of Education at UH MÄnoa for many years. She will be joined by coauthor Eva Moravcik, professor of early childhood education at Honolulu Community College and coordinator of the Leeward Community College Children’s Center, and by photographer Jeff Reese, an education specialist who alternates his time between Hawai‘i and Oregon. They will appear at the following book launch events, which are free and open to the public (children are welcome). Books will be available for purchase.
