In addition to formal language instruction, classes include presentations of some of the cultural aspects of Japans and conversation practice. Learners often have the opportunity to interact with Japanese native speakers in class.

Elementary 2 follows lessons 7 through 12 and Elementary lessons 7+ of Japanese for Busy People, Volume I. Elementary 3 follows lessons 11 through 18 of Japanese for Busy People, Volume I.

Reina Hirose Horton was born in Honolulu and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She received her BA from Waseda University, where she studied Political science and also received a MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Hawaii Pacific University. She teaches Japanese to adult and young learners. Her current interests include motivation in language acquisition and the connection between language and identity.

Mineko White has taught Japanese classes at Kapi‘olani Community College, as well as for JAIMS, the Hawai‘i Department of Education, Honolulu Waldorf High School, and Damien Memorial High School.
