Multinational and interdisciplinary research on Noh plays

Dr. Sirimonporn Suriyawongpaisal is a Professor of Japanese at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. This talk provides a background on her joint researches on Noh, a traditional form of Japanese musical theatre and was designated by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage.

The talk will also touch on Dr. Suriyawongpaisal's current project as the leader of the research "An Interdisciplinary Approach to the Noh Play Tanika," in collaboration with other professors from different countries who will look at the play in different areas such as: parent-child relations, Japanese Buddhism, particularly the yamabushi, the play's characteristics as a Noh play and a performing art. A brief video featuring the performance will be shown.
