James Harding (Maryland): “Surveillance and Brecht's 'Street Scene'"

This preshow talk introduces key aspects of the devised theatre production "Smile, You're Under Surveillance!" (Kennedy Theatre, 7:30pm). James Harding (Theatre, Dance & Performance Studies/ University of Maryland), author of the forthcoming book "Performance, Transparency, and the Cultures of Surveillance," will discuss the interrelationships between surveillance, information technologies, and Bertolt Brecht's famous article on "The Street Scene," in which an eyewitness demonstrating to a collection of people how a traffic accident took place is used as an example of Epic Theatre.
