Seminar: Hawaii Space Flight Laboratory Mission Development Capabilities

The Hawaii Space Flight Laboratory (HSFL) was created in 2007 with the goal of designing, building, testing, launching, and operating small spacecraft from the Hawaiian Islands. HSFL was established as an interdisciplinary organization where engineers and scientists could interact in real time to execute small spacecraft missions. HSFL's first satellite, 50-kg HiakaSat, was launched as part of the unsuccessful Operationally Responsive Space -4 Mission from Kauai on November 3, 2015. However, HiakaSat demonstrated that the 130-student and staff Hawaii team could design, build, and test a microsatellite that was delivered according to strict Air Force standards. In this talk, we focus on presenting HSFL support capabilities and invite faculty, staff and students to propose future mission ideas along the lines of some of NASA's small spacecraft initiatives.
