The SOUTH CHINA SEA DISPUTE: The U.S. ROLE in CHINA'S AGGRESSION
Reginald Yin-Wang Kwok, Professor of Asian Studies, and Urban & Regional Planning
Recent reports identify China as the sole aggressor in the current South China Sea Disputes. These disputes flare up a series of security and military issues in China's neighbors. This presentation attempts to give a more comprehensive review of the causes and the history of this Southeast Asian international turmoil. The regional political events are examined by reviewing the maritime functions and resources, the participants, and the methods of territorial claim. In particular, the seldom mentioned U.S. interests, political involvement, and military maneuvers in this region will be addressed.
